What You Need to Know About Medicare

Family Health Plans of TX is here to provide a brief explanation of what Medicare is and what they offer. Medicare is a health insurance program for:

  • People Aged 65 Years or Older
  • People Below 65 Years Old With Certain Disabilities
  • People of All Ages With End-Stage Renal Disease (Permanent Kidney Failure That Requires a Kidney Transplant or Dialysis)

What Medicare Offers

Part A Hospital Insurance

Most people don’t pay a premium for Part A since they or their spouse had already paid for it via their payroll taxes when they were still working. Medicare Part A helps cover inpatient care in hospitals as well as critical access hospitals. It covers hospice care and some other healthcare costs, too.

Part A also helps cover inpatient care in skilled nursing facilities (except custodial and long-term care). Please keep in mind that beneficiaries must meet certain conditions to get these benefits.

Part B Medical Insurance

Nearly all people pay a monthly premium for Part B. Medicare Part B helps cover outpatient care and doctors' services. Moreover, it covers other medical services that Part A doesn’t like occupational and physical therapy and some home healthcare services.

Part B helps cover the cost of these services and supplies when they are medically necessary.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Most people will pay a monthly premium for this coverage. This helps you lower prescription drug costs and protects you against higher prices in the future.

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage is also provided by private companies. Beneficiaries select the drug plan and pay their premium monthly. Like other insurance products, beneficiaries who decided against enrolling in a drug plan when they are first eligible might need to pay a penalty if they chose to join on a later date.
